Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, this residence required a complete redesign of a crowded and overgrown property. The landscape framework balances the spatial limitations of this half-acre urban lot with the client’s desire to maximize outdoor programs. Every site intervention was approached as art—creating sculptural equilibrium among all components and providing flexibility.
A fence with horizontal slats was placed behind the fruit trees, its dark color and rigid yet delicate forms creating a calm backdrop for the lush evergreen leaves. A simple consistent border of ficus and kentia palms creates a quiet frame around the back of the property, which is divided into recreational and contemplative areas.
The water in the swimming pool sits level with the rest of the backyard. The uninterrupted flatness transforms the ground into a canvas—reflecting back each meticulously composed element of the landscape. Bisecting an allee of olive trees, a sculpture that is part bench / part water feature strikes a piercing line of contrasting color and reflection through the middle of the majestic grove.
