Growing up in a desert environment combined with the challenging climatic conditions of Saudi Arabia inspired Sultan to create human-scale landscapes that consider hot and dry climates. A third of the Earth’s land surface is arid or semi-arid—where barren areas of the landscape have little precipitation occurring and, consequently, the living conditions are hostile for plants and wildlife. This fuels Sultan’s passion to focus on the desert landscapes or the so-called Xeriscapes.
Sultan is completing his Master of Landscape Architecture at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from King Saud University. Prior to pursuing his master’s degree, Sultan worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on various project types including mixed-use, residential, commercial, and recreational.
Besides work, Sultan enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures as a way to learn about the history, religion, and traditions.
